We need to eliminate development that is copied from other local cities. Leawood wants unique, distinctive and custom designs. We don't want modern and sterile buildings that look like every new apartment complex in Overland Park or Lenexa.
We have a Meadowbrook Park-style central development that is thriving, and a village where people can shop and enjoy community spaces. The architecture is charming and unique.
I'm not interested in Leawood pursuing autonomous vehicles. We could use additional charging stations for electric vehicles.
Continue to expand our trail network. Wherever Leawood builds trails or widens sidewalks, they do a fantastic job. Add flashing signs and visual cues for vehicles--scooters and e-bikes are here to stay and we need to adapt as drivers.

The strong sense of community around Gezer Park. I feel so fortunate to live within walking distance as it's a community gathering place and whenever I walk my dogs, I see someone I know. The park helps to create such a strong sense of community. I'd love to see several additional 10-acre public parks in Leawood.

YES, we don't want 4-story apartments.
YES, absolutely.
Yes, absolutely! There's a huge demand for villas in Leawood.
No. These types of developments haven't been very successful, and they attract in & out shopping because there's no reason to stay. I'm thinking of the strip at 123rd & State Line, which has sat half vacant for years. The development off 135th & Briar is attractive, but it isn't fully rented and it doesn't encourage folks to stay.
HARD NO
Yes, absolutely! Anything we can do to promote community and socializing is beneficial and most desired. This is a value that should apply to any new development.
Yes, absolutely. Every single plan we approve from now on, without exception, must prioritize walkability & bicycle access. We also need to account for ebikes and scooters, as they aren't going away. We have far too many cars hitting pedestrians.
In my neighborhood near Gezer Park, we walk and bike a lot. Any day that is nice, folks are out walking and biking. This promotes a healthy lifestyle and a stronger community. Geezer Park helps to promote a sense of community--in development-speak, a sense of place.
Only if it's the right type of aesthetic. East Village is technically vertical mixed use and I hate the modern & boring aesthetic, which comes directly from the developer's projects in Lenexa. I love Park Place, as it's unique to Leawood and its architecture is quaint and charming.
Yes. We have enough areas designated for mixed use. We desperately need more upscale, smaller footprint housing options as compared to more mixed use.
Yes! Absolutely we want more local businesses, from retail to restaurants. There are plenty of national chains elsewhere, we don't need them in Leawood. Let's create the right environment for local businesses to thrive.
YES! We've been begging for a Meadowbrook development. A huge opportunity was lost when the council approved East Village, as 115 acres would have been the perfect for it. The developer refused to a resident-requested 10-acre park within 115 acres of Mixed use development.

Idea
You need to add the idea of full-ci ty computer control of traffic lights. The full system need to be automated to keep traffic flowing. This concept is important for quality of life. You can spend your life doing instead of waiting at stop lights.

And too expensive not going to spend 1 million to move to a villa that isn’t that much smaller than my current home

Parks and trails

Really concerned about traffic flow
Adding more local shop spaces, multiple styles of homes (townhomes, condos, SFH). Making the space a magnet for young families AND seniors "aging in place"
I'm raising my family in Leawood and Safety is my #1 issue.
There needs to be a balance with increasing housing options without negatively impacting the high property values of nearby homes.
Would suggest avoiding this ADU style approach.
YES, This plus the Park Place option.
Answer
Leawood finally builds missing middle housing, and it's impressive and a huge success!

This could be a great option for retirees looking to downsize. Many existing villas in Leawood are too big, and/or dated.
Answer
Own one, and will want to sell it, and stay in Leawood...in the next 5 years. Looking for the missing middle, in a beautiful and quiet setting.
