Answer
More job opportunities but also with competitive wages/salaries.
Answer
As all cities/states USA wide--more mental health resources are always needed.
Answer
Sorry I think I addressed this above w/ my statement about lack of sidewalks/safe places to run/walk/bike.
Answer
As a runner, I definitely feel we need more sidewalks/safe places to run/walk/bike for a more active and healthier community.
Answer
It does seem that we need more clean, safe and affordable rental properties opportunities for people that cannot or do not want to buy/own a place.
Answer
Making it a friendly community for all people, all ages.
Answer
Continue to grow and be a productive but safe town for all.
Answer
I would love to have a movie theater in our town again. I have good memories of getting to go to the movies, here in town from when I was a kid and teenager.
And just other/more fun, safe activities for all ages.
Having safety poles throughout the town would greatly improve crime, trail and walking and neighborhoods. These are the poles that light up when you hit them, call the police and make loud noises. Stillwater employs these with great success. But in our areas it would help people feel safer and like the city cares about their wellbeing when walking, biking, running.
We are not known for our architectural style. It is eclectic, and ranch style with some bungalow style houses. Within this community we have tract spec houses and some community formed houses. The style would be a mix of average blue collar to budget friendly houses.
foster events and occasions for families in a safe way.
Safe place means that people can be good citizens and not be in fear of being harmed. Safe is relative but starts with security, shelter and an opportunity to find belonging.
Idea
"Sallisaw a place that allows you to live with your family and takes care of its citizens"
I am a young profession that holds a license and moved to this area. I believe on of the greatest attributes Sallisaw has is its proximity. We are 1 hour from NWA, Tulsa, 2.5 from OKD 4 from Dallas 5 from KC. We have access to three lakes many rivers and lots of hiking. We have a smaller town where you can know people and feel safe.
I fully believe that the city and be more open and have a better communication process for the city. This would look like simple online one page sheets once a month that explain different areas. I.e. processes or even about certain things. This might be how we got CASC when it was establish how can go there and how they can find more info. It could be public awareness of areas that are prone to flooding and vehicular closures right before rain season. It could be what is the process for submitting a work order, and how that can create a backlog and how they prioritize those so people understand process better. Community is strenghtened when people understand each other better.
The city desperately needs their own asphalt machine. This would greatly improve not only the town but would provide beautification, safety and allow for more cost affective maintenance in the long term.
Public art not only allows for beautification but starts to bring awareness and bridge communities.
Single Family Residential, Light Industrial, Parks and Rec and more support and brand awareness of the current things.
I think community values are symptomatic of those that inhabit the location but are ideal to what they strive for. In my opinion we should be striving for helping out neighbors, and being a community that knows our neighborhood. One suggestion for this is to have a fun take on building and creating neighborhoods or districts. This way areas could build rapport, help converse and develop pride for the community.
Idea
I believe the goals should be more clear and precise communication around activities going on and prospective. In addition to have a program like Stillwater, OK in helping hands project. This is a project where the community organizes and prioritizes a city wide hands on clean up program that not only promotes beatification but also helps those that are unable to afford or physically clean up their areas.
Answer
I think my personal idea of Sallisaw is a safe community that is grounded in providing good support for business, opportunities for families and growing support for outside industry and projects that develop our community but do not try to apply unreasonable amounts of gentrification. This would look like more arts and community humanity projects. Brining in larger businesses and focusing the community of our job placement and growth opportunities within CASC and ICTC. Furthermore, accessible parks, chamber multi-purpose business centers for new businesses and clear branding on the vison of a great place for people to live and grow.
